Poissaolevien kaiut

Poissaolevien kaiut is a slowly evolving performative work that transforms the Petsamo Hall into a space of sound, light and movement for the night.

The piece combines live and recorded music, field recordings, Ukrainian sounds and vocal textures, slow movement, and black-and-white analogue photographic projections of Rovaniemi’s summer streets at night. The spatial composition is built around candlelight and warm ambient lighting.

The project features the Association of Ukrainians in Lapland, the musician Lauri “Kadonnut Manner” and audio material by the Ukrainian artist Tungu (Sergiy Senchuk).

The work explores memory, absence, the city at night, and a kind of quiet connection with unseen presences in a bright northern summer night.

The piece is partly built around improvisation, collaboration and a sensitivity to the space, and the audience are free to enter and leave the venue at any time during the performance.
